CONTOUR NECK PILLOW

A memory foam pillow can make a big difference to the quality of your sleep and therefore your health. If you suffer from neck, back or shoulder pain they can be a tremendous help, and even if you don't they're still worth considering. But what's the best memory foam neck pillow to buy? The answer depends on what it's made of plus what type of sleeper you are.

Firstly, the type of foam used can differ widely. Don't be tempted to buy a cheap neck pillow because it will invariably be a waste of your money. Cheap foam doesn't last as long, may give off toxic fumes, cause allergic reaction and not provide the support and comfort of a quality pillow. Always check the density of the memory foam as the higher the density the better the foam. As a general rule anything above 4 lbs density will give great support where it's needed and resume its original shape for at least five years. As soon as the foam fails to go back to its shape after use it's time to get a new one.

What Shape Neck Pillow?

There are a variety of pillow shapes to choose from. The type which will suit you depends on your sleeping posture. The shape of pillow that will provide the best support and comfort will be different if you're predominantly a person who sleeps on your front, side or back - see below.

The Contour Pillow
This shape will suit you if you sleep mainly on your side or back. You place the lower part of the pillow right up to your shoulders so the whole of your neck is in contact with it. This helps to keep your neck and spine aligned and will relieve stress on your disks. Can also be to as the ergonomic or wedge pillow.

The Core Pillow
Can be suitable for both side or back sleepers but in our view better for mainly people who prefer to be on their backs. Offers great support and feels good on the neck. The contour pillow above is better for sleeping on your side.

The Classic Pillow
The most versatile pillow shape as you can form it to suit most positions you sleep in. Particularly useful for front sleepers.

The Travel Pillow
Great for when you're on the go for finding a comfortable position on planes, trains and cars. If you have to sit up when you sleep these can provide great support for your head so it doesn't drop forward or sideways. Also useful for hotels if you're used to the comfort of memory foam.

If you check the quality of the foam and buy the right shape you'll get years of comfort and better quality sleep from your neck pillow.
